Liberty Hall Lodge No. 104, A.F. & A.M.
Damascus, Virginia
Liberty Hall Lodge No. 104 was chartered December 14, 1880. Most Worshipful Payton J. Coles, Grand Master and Brother William B. Isaac, Grand Secretary, Virginia, signed the charter in the city of Richmond.
Most Worshipful Coles appointed as first officers:
R. R. Hughes Worshipful Master
E. C. Snodgrass Senior Warden
Walter A. Crowe Junior Warden
The Lodge met at Liberty Hall, Washington County, Virginia until the year 1918, when it was moved to Damascus, Virginia, a distance of about five miles. The reason for this move was that there were more members in Damascus than in the Liberty Hall vicinity and that Damascus was a town while Liberty Hall was only a county place.
The Lodge continued to make progress until December 1927, when the minutes of the stated communication read as follows: “No meeting on December 17, 1927 on account of Lodge building being destroyed by fire this date.” The Lodge lost its Charter, Furniture, Jewels, etc.
A duplicate Charter was received and officers for 1928 were elected January 21, 1928, with a dispensation from the Grand Master.
Liberty Hall Lodge has made substantial progress in recent years having moved into a new temple in 1980. Dedicated members provided all labor on the temple.
