Marion Lodge No. 31, A.F. & A.M.

                                                                Marion, Virginia

The Grand Lodge of Virginia granted a charter for Marion Lodge No. 31 on December 4, 1859. The first Worshipful Master was Fred Gilliam.

The Lodge had its first quarters on Broad Street, in Marion. After the Brethren vacated those premises, the Lodge met, for a time, on Cherry Street. This was prior to 1913, when the present temple was constructed. Although the Masonic Lodge initiated the construction of the temple, the Knights Templar bought the building at about the time it was completed because the Lodge could not raise the funds to pay for the finished building.
