Letters, notes and comments that visitors to this website have sent meAlso included are message from other Baumbachs looking for Baumbachs From: Lynn Kehrberg January 20, 2009 I thank you so much again. If it had not been for you and your web sight I most certainly would have never had this opportunity. I have now had contact with Bodo's brother Freidrich. I have also learned Bodo has a son too. With out movers and shakers like you, this world quite possibly would founder. I just wanted to say thank you. From: Zeta Wilson Peterson, daughter of Luella Baumbach Wilson Thursday March 29, 2007 10:18 AM. You have made a "HUGE" difference with your web site, bringing hundreds of cousins back together. I've found 3-4++ cousins I would never have known if It hadn't been for you. I had heard as a small child something about a distant gr grandfather being honored by a King. You helped put the puzzle pieces together. I continue to be amazed by the Famous Baumbach....the first time I saw his picture I nearly fell off my chair as the resemblance to my mother's brothers is amazing. And, I have two male cousins who also resemble him. I just want to also say how thankful I am for you and everything that you have done. It's more than just for our Baumbach family, it's your business, too. Have a wonderful Day, William !! And, God Bless You !! From: Amy Baumbach Sent: Monday, December 19, 2005 8:32 AM. This reminds me of 3 years ago when I sent out JC and Tina's request and cried when I received all of your emails. From: Jennifer Baumbach Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2001 2:58 PM As it turns out I email-ed one of the people who left a message on your guest book, and found a great great uncle. So thank you very much. From: artjunkie01@aol.com [mailto:artjunkie01@aol.com] Hey my name is Austin Baumbach. You may have already been contacted by my family. My grandparents are Alvin and Lucile Baumbach, they have 3 sons Alan, Jerry and Brian. Jerry is my father. I would love to have an email address @baumbach.com! Thank you. -Austin J. Baumbach email: Brittain_116@msn.com CommentsThis is for Zeta Peterson or Alice Baumbach Williamson. My Mother, Phyllis Fisher, is your cousin. She is the youngest daughter of Esther M. (Baumbach) Breitling and was born in McCook, Nebraska. She is currently living in Lewiston, Idaho. Zeta, I tried e-mailing you, but it came back, so I will give you some other information. She also has a cousin in California, who is the daughter of Margaret C. Her name is Bernice. My mother is: Phyllis Fisher 127 15th Ave Lewiston, Idaho 83501 Mom's older sister Vila, lives in Weiser, Idaho and they have -2- brothers who are deceased. I will send her this information too. We hope to hear from you. Brenda Brittain email: Brittain_115@msn.com CommentsMy grandmother was Esther Baumbach. Her mother was Margarete and I think her father was William. Sometime as a young man, her father walked from Canada to get to Nebraska. My great-grandmother Margarete died after childbirth (daughter also Margarete,) and my greatgrandfather remarried and they had more children. My grandmother had a sister named Clara and some brothers (one named Edwin) and Margarete and then some 1/2 sisters and brothers. (a half-sister named Thelma, I think.) She married Jake Breitling in Nebraska when she was 16. Her sister Clara, married August Breitling. Baumbach is an unusal name and I have very little in the way of family details other than my grandmother Esther, and her father were not close or friendly; and by all accounts, he was a very strange kind of person. Grandma talked alot but not much about her parents other than she really missed her Mother. Her childhood was very hard. I think she grew up in or around McCook, Nebraska and my mother was born there in 1931. Her name is Phyllis Breitling. I'd love to hear from anyone who might know about this branch of the Baumbachs. My maiden name was Baumbaugh, but the original name from Germany was Baumbach. My gr-gr grandfather was Reinhardt Baumbach from Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany and he was a career Hessian soldier. He was born in 1828 and landed in America on May 27, 1861 having traveled from Bremen on the ship Terese landing in New York and then on to Johnstown, Pa. where he was guaranteed employment with the Emmerling Brewery. Traveling with him were his wife Anna and their children Friedrich, Heinrich, Cathrina, Elise, Anna and Philipp. He served in the Civil War having been paid by a doctor to take the doctor's place. He suffered an extensive injury and lived off a pension until his death on July 4, 1882 when he committed suicide. His name was changed from Baumbach to Baumbaugh after coming to America. I don't know anything about the family when they lived in Germany and would love to hear from anyone who could add to my family information. ] -----Original Message----- Hi, William (and Jennifer), I'm Jennifer's father, Larry Smith, the son of Mary Baumbach Smith, of Charlevoix, Michigan. Her father, Rolland Baumbach, was born in the Grand Rapids Michigan area, called Berlin at the time and later changed to Marne, to one Friedrich Baumbach, who immigrated to America with a brother some time in the 1860s. I have some information suggesting he came from town called Westerhof, which may be in East Germany or up near Hannover. Rolland lost touch with his father at an early age (Friedrich deserted the family) and never told any of his ten children where in Germany Fred had come from. I'd like to know if you have any information about any Baumbachs from Westerhof. Rolland's wife, Mary Waldruff, who is Jennifer's great grandmother, was born in June 1884. Rolland was born Dec. 9, 1877. Thank you. Larry Smith -----Original Message----- Hi, I am 11 1/2 years old. I will be 12 in May. My name is Victoria Mae Baumbach. Everybody just calls me Tori. Any thoughts? Thanks for getting back to me. Kim email: chrismacdon@comcast.net CommentsVery nice website. I stumbled upon it while trying to find information about a particular Baumbach. You may find it interesting that a man named Friedrich von Baumbach-Nentershausen of Kassel was implicated as a member of the notorious Illuminati conspiracy in the 1780's in Germany. His code-name in the secret order was "Zamolxis." email:

I have been gathering data about my ancestors and would like to learn if you might have information to add to mine. My great grandmother was Anna Martha Baumbach. I am Hans-Dieter Baumbach from the city Erfurt (capital of the landscape and the german federate-state Thueringen - and also the homeland of your ancestors). My gr-grandfather was the shoemaker Valentin Albert Baumbach, born 1857 in Ebertshausen (nearly 10 km northeast of Meiningen and 25 km southeast of Bad Liebenstein & Schweina). You have a very very interesting web-site. I found in your guest-book my nephew Matthias (our contact was interrupted before many years) and two Baumbach's (father & son) from Nuernberg also with ancestors in Ebertshausen - now we search the relation. As I saw your tree, I have wondered, why the wife of Friedrid Baumbach (I believe Friedrich) is written always only Catharine. You have on your web-site the birthrecord of her son Bernhard August and here can I read her complete name: Catharine Margarethe nee Aschenbach. >From another web-source I know a horseshoesmith Friedrich Baumbach and a Catharine Margarethe Aschenbach with a son Bernhard August (b. 1855 in Meiningen and also a horseshoesmith). Tabbop@earthlink.net CommentsWell, to think I grew up in Des Peres, Missouri, thinking my immediate family were the only Baumbachs in the world.Nobody at our school shared our family name except for my own sisters and cousins. I unconsiously tuned in to that name and looked for it in my travels in the military and in the newspapers and books I read in great numbers. When I was tipped off to this site by one of my five sisters, I thought after reading through the guest book, that no one had made mention of a couple of Baumbachs that made the history books. One was Werner Baumbach, who was a major strategist and commanding officer in the the air war for Germany in World War 2. Another Baumbach who distinguished himself was Harland L. Baumbach, who was among those reieving a scientific and technical award in the 1957 Academy Awards for his contribution in developing an automatic printer light selector. I'm sure there must be more Baumbachs out there that have made their mark in the archives of various histories. So it might be interesting if some of the Baumbachs, could share their knowledge on this site of other Baumbachs that have distinguished themselves in some way.I read in an advertisement for the rodeo held on on the fourth of July week-end, 2004, at Mark Twain Lake in Missouri, the results from the 2003 rodeo, and it turned out a guy named Dustin Baumbach and his partner had won the team roping event. So we know at least one of the Baumbach clan turned out to be a cowboy. That was my dream growing up, but it ended when they took Roy Rogers and Gene Autry and Wild Bill Hickock off of Saturday morning TV. This site has made my day , it is too much to absorb in one visit so I will be coming back alot. Thanks email:

I am Robert Carl Olson, grandson of Carl Paul Lincoln Baumbach. My aunt Jeannie (Baumbach) Jahnke, gave me this web address, and ever since I have been obsessed with my Baumbach heritage. First, I would like to thank William James Baumbach II for this website. I never knew that there were so many Baumbachs around the world. The information presented here is just great! The information on Tannenberg castle, and the possibility of having family there is absolutely extraordinary! I am excited beyond words! I have a very deep passion for Germany; I was stationed there for 2 ½ years while I was in the U.S. Army in the early 80’s. I became very active in the community where I was stationed…Babenhausen. I played in the city orchestra, and spent all of my free time in the company of my German friends. Now, twenty years later I find that my attempt to trace our family history dead ends in Darmstadt Germany. I was very well acquainted with Darmstadt while I was stationed nearby…and I was not aware that my great, great grandfather Carl Baumbach came from there. At any rate, we are looking to trace things as far back as possible, and hopefully within the walls of Tannenberg. The fartherst we can find is Carl Baumbach, born 04 FEB 1850 in ,,,, Hessen Darmstadt, Germany, and died 14 DEC 1931 in ,, Fall Creek, Eau Claire Co, WI, USA. He was buried 17 DEC 1931 in St. James Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Fall Creek, Eau Claire Co, WI, USA. He married Fredricke WOLTER 1872. She was born 23 JAN 1850 in ,,,, Holstein, Germany, and died 09 NOV 1939 in ,, Fall Creek, Eau Claire Co, WI, USA. She was buried 12 NOV 1939 in St. James Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Fall Creek, Eau Claire Co, WI, USA. A couple of further facts: Carl Baumbach was a Lutheran Pastor at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church, Fall Creek, WI. Carl Baumbach immigrated to the U. S. in 1867. I would appreciate any and all help in tracing this back further. I also have one more question. Does anyone have a description of the symbolism of our family crest? I am curious to learn what is behind the symbols that make up the crest. I have searched high and low, but I came up empty handed. Well, thank you all, and I look forward to meeting some of you in the future. Bob Olson email: jbflytyer@earthlink.net CommentsJames Baumbach Son of Dale G. Joseph married a Ruby Isadore Carter in Wisconsin but she was from Kimball, Wisc. If anyone reads this and has some family history in or around Melon or recognize any of the names - please contact me. email:
tarfm@hotmail.com CommentsGreat site that I just discovered. I am related to same part of the Baumbach clan as history book visitor Zeta Peterson. Her Grandfather Lorenz was a brother of my Grandmother, Margaretha Caroline (in later years she used Margaret). My Grandmother passed away in July of 2000. There is another sibling of her Grandfather and my Grandmother that was not mentioned in her posts. Our Grandparents' father William immigrated to the US from Canada after getting a woman pregnant and then failing to marry her. His parents in Canada, William and Carloine, soon after reported that he had died while away. That is why he has a grave in Canada with a very early date and one in Nebraska. The name of the child from that union escapes me right now, but she subsequently married and had a son, Jay Quartz. Jay spent years doing genealogy research in his homeland in Canada. He always wondered why there was so little information on his grandfather. Quite by accident, he discovered that there had been a decades-long deception. He has very extensive genealogical data on the Canadian side of the Baumbach's. I have lost contact with him but will see if I can locate him and provide a copy to anyone interested. Monica Phillips email: niftyneedles@lineone.net CommentsGreat site, only found it today. Am looking for Baumbach's originating in 1750's Denmark. My mother's maiden name was Baumbach and her grandfather George Frederick Julius Baumbach came to the U. K. from Denmark in the late 1800's. Thanks if you can help. I can share a GEDcom file with what I know. Lynn email:

Meissner Mark C [mailto: markm@mcm.com ] Hello William, Last year a man who lives in Newcastle upon Tyne in Britain contacted my cousins in IL to share some letters and documents that were passed down from his great grandmother, Martha Elizabeth whose maiden name was Meissner . Some of the documents referred to her as being from Neuterhausen and some from Tannenberg. At first it was thought that the Tannenberg meant the Tannenberg Battle site of the Russian defeat in 1914 in Poland as that reference is more easily found in literature. But when I investigated I discovered the translation was incorrect and that the Neutershausen was really Nentershausen. and the Tannenberg association made it clear. Some of the documents were letters from MY great grandfather Ludwig/ Louis Meissner (1837-1898) who emigrated to St Louis between 1855 and 1860. In 1861 he was in the Union Army (for six months) and ended up thereafter in Breese. Martha was married to a 'turner' from Wolfsanger Parish in Kassel in 1855 and several of the documents refer to that process, including her birth certificate from the Church in Nentershausen. She was born in 1832 and was considered a spinster. On one wedding document (they were married in Nentershausen) it refers to her as Martha Eliz Meissner of Tannenberg. Her Father was named as Burkhardt Meissner who was a Shepard or master Shepard depending upon translation. The godmother was the wife of Anton Jordan "lord of the manor' from Basterode (that being a suspect translation). I had at one point thought that the Manor referred to the Tannenberg itself but after reading of Baumbach's Ludwig I and the Landgreve of Hesse and that history I think that theory is false. But the fact that Martha was reffered to as 'from Tannenberg' shows some kind of connection. Also, there are siblings of Martha and Louis called Peter and Maria. I'm guessing that Peter was the oldest and Louis therefore had to emigrate as that was the norm at that time. I'm hoping to find if any Meissners are left in the area and am planning to go over to Nentershausen perhaps next year. I will of course become a member and hopefully convince others in the family to do likewise. Vincent Angus, the relative in Newcastle might also want to support the Tannenberg project. He has possession of the original letters and documents. I think that Tannenberg or Nentershausen might be interested in some of them and I.am going to try and determine that when I go over. Vincent said he wanted to meet me there so he could bring the related documents over with him. They are very impressive , what with their seals and such.. Well, sorry to take so much of your time but I was very excited to see that there was a Tannenberg society. Mark Meissner ----Original Message----- I want to contact our cousin in Newcastle and my cousins in Breese to add some also. Thanks, You'll be hearing from me soon. Hoping to go there next year and am really excited. By the way, I found a genealogy referring to the Landgrave of Hesse (who evidently 'took over' Tannenberg from your family at some point) who was related to the Counts of Louvain and Brabant, and to the Percy family in Northumberland who figured significantly in English history and are major players in Shakespear's history plays. email: kay.baumbach@web.de CommentsHello my name is Kay Baumbach. It's awkward to put this information here because I don't want to "scare" him, but it is important for me to locate him. I have reason to believe that he's my biological father. My biological mother claims that she married Mr. Baumbach in California in about 1968 or 1969. Her name at that time was Terrania Lomonte. She was employed at the Kit Kat Club in Burbank at that time and I believe that is where they met. If anyone can assist me in any way with this search, I would greatly appreciate it! Message----- Could you please add these emails to your list - they are the remaining of a dwindling annual family Baumbach reunion that meets in the NY/PA/NJ area each summer. We are decended from Peter Ernst Wilhelm Baumbach (1853-1907) and Sophie Meinken (1861-1951). They had 12 children -4 of which did not live past childhood or infancy. Three of the children came to America in the New Jersey area and kept close family contact - the second oldest, Meta Margarethe; my grandfather, Fredrich Carl; and the youngest, Elsie E. (now all deceased) Their children (0ur parents) were cousins, and were more like brothers and sisters. Consequently, THEIR children (my generation) are like direct cousins. My mother ( eliz00hy@aol.com ) is the only one 'born' a Baumbach in the whole lot of us. Yet, we have been having Baumbach family reunions for about 9 years now. Each year it is at someone else's home, and most of us camp out in the yards. We are an odd a bit kooky bunch, and have a great time. I believe this year we will be in Newark, Delaware (the furthest jaunt of the rounds). jbrady@ptd.net --- Janet - Meta's granddaughter eliz00hy@aol.com --- Betty - my mom, Fred's daughter rhoutsch@ptd.net --- Meta's granddaughter (Judy, my cousin is our "photo-journalist" of the clan/reunions, and keeps the family tree info) kkochans@ix.netcom.com - Karen - Elsie's granddaughter There are others without email - but if you contact these few, they will contact the non-internet folk. This is soooo cool! We love our heritage. I downloaded photos from your website a few years ago, and made a slide show that we have enjoyed. You folks certainly put a tremendous amount of hard work and energy in to your Webb site. A job very well done. You must be terribly proud. My Dad Phillip August Baumbach was born in 1912, lived in the Central Valley of California. He was orphaned in 1919, and went to live with his newly married 18 year old sister Tillie, in Dinuba, California. At the age of 8 years, as his story is told, he begun his on the nob training as a plumber's helper to his brother-in-law George Stanton, Tillie's husband. Thus began his 45 years of being a plumber as was your Dad.In 1944, during WWII, he moved his family from the Valley to Pittsburg California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he became established and part owner of Pittsburg Plumbling and Heating with his nephew Raymond. He took over the company shortly thereafter and was in the plumbing business until his retirement in 1963. Small world I would say !!!! Message----- Mr. Baumbach, My name is Rebecca Anne (Tautges) Baumbach. I am a Baumbach by marriage, but I am very interested in the family history as is my husband, Sean Baumbach. Thank you for the invitation to the reunion in Germany. We would love to go, but we're unable to make it. Your letter has led us to quite a bit of information about the family, thank you. My mother-in-law, Roxanne Alice (Riedel) Baumbach, wife of Richard Adolph Baumbach, gave my husband the following family history as written by Fred Baumbach in March 1969. Henry and Guido Baumbach, twin brothers, were born in Stadt Weimer, Saxony, Germany in 1825. They apprenticed to an uncle, Casper Baumbach, as shoemaker, weave, and baker up to the age of 19 years. At this time they were subject to military draft so they decided to emigrate to America. Being musically inclined, the two brothers traveled on foot earning their way by performing on flute and piccolo at each town visited. This required the stamp of approval from the magistrate of the town and was recorded in what was called a Wanderer Book. This book, together with their flute and piccolo are still in existence. The journey from home to the port of embarkation at Bremen, Germany, lasted from May 1844 to the following August. Six weeks aboard sailship brought the two brothers to Trenton, New Jersey. The next stop was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they were hired to play in the Forpaugh and Sells Circus band, traveling from town to town by wagon train. After a season with the circus they married two sisters by the name of Catherine and Dorthea Katzman also recently from Germany. From Philadelphia the two couples moved to Middletown, Pennsylvania, being employed at their trades learned back in Germany. By 1866, the two brothers had children. Henry with six sons and Guido with three sons and three daughters.Henry was not satisfied with the idea of raising six sons under city environment so he contacted a brother-in-law, Mr. Kurtzman then living in Wisconsin. Locating a homestead on the ridge near Norwalk, Wisconsin, the Henry Baumbach family moved from Middletoen, Pennsylvania in 1887 to the homestead. They set to work with grub hoe and axe and acquired a home with much hardship. However, Henry required his boys to take musical instruction from him for recreation. This resulted in the Baumbach Band which was engaged in entertaining at many social gatherings around Norwalk in those days. This brings us to the marriage of Henry's six sons, as follows; Guido Jr. married Delia Lueck, and their children consisted of seven sons namely: George, Will, Elmer, Julian, Oscar, Robert, and Rueben, the latter being twins. George married Delia Schmalz, and their children consisted of four daughters and three sons, namely: Emma, Minnie, Edward, Herman, Otto, Ida, and Martha. John married Mary Jones and their children consisted of four sons namely: Johnnie, Charlie, Henry, and William. Henry Jr. married Caroline Perso, and their children consisted of three daughters and one son, namely: Mary Breitenfield, Martha Schwarz, Alma Telfer, and Herman, who is now residing in Nebraska. William married Bertha Schamens and their children consisted of four daughters and two sons, namely: Melita, Alvina, Thressia, August, Adolph, and Meta. Albert married Caroline Schendel and their children consisted of Fred W. and Paul A. Baumbach. Guido Sr., the twin brother of Henry, had a family of three sons and three daughters. This family settled in Pennsylvania and are all residing in the East. A brother, Valentine came to Americs later. Charles Baumbach, a grandson of Guido was director of a 30 piece band for 30 years and in this band there were nine Baumbachs. They performed in the East and Canada. At the Lutheran Cemetary near Norwalk, WI are buried the original Henry Baumbach Sr., and his wife Catherine; Martha; George and his wife;also Henry Jr. and his wife, Caroline. Herman Baumbach, the grandson of Henry Sr., lives on the old homestead farm near Norwalk, WI. This is all the Baumbach Family information I have at this time. Adolph, son of William, was my father-in-law's father. Adolph married Meta Friede and had three children: Richard, Audrey, and Opal. I am wondering if there was a mistake about Guido Jr.'s wife's name. I saw in another email on your site the name Ottilie Lueck being married to Guido Jr. instead of the name Delia. Thank you again for news of the reunion and the great website. We welcome any correspondence from other Baumbachs who want to get to know each other. CommentsHI, My name is Andrew Baumback, and I am living in Australia. I guess my parents never found out much about the family history..from what I can know possibly early 20th Century or thereabouts some of the Baumbacks migrated to England (and changed the last letter of the name I guess to not appear so "ethnic"!) I was born in England in 1964 and we in turn migrated to Aust in 1968. I have a 10 year old son (Julian) who would love to feel he has a "connection" with Germany and other Baumbacks, as we have no other relatives in Oz from the Baumback (apart from brothers' families) and there are only a handful of names even similar to Baumbach even in our country's phone directories!! I would love to hear if anyone knows of the "England" connection!
Commentshey there. i have known lisa and willie almost my whole life.... willie comes over occasionally and i talk to lisa a lot. i thought that when willie told me to go to this site it would be like any other "family" page- but, it's not. i like it a lot. when i tried to go into the homepages it didnt work- but i understand that some things take time to work out to perfection. anyways, thanks for giving me something to do on a rainy night like tonight! My name is Jens Baumbach, I was born on the 7th of may in 1969 in Geldern/Germany. My father, Günter Ernst Baumbach, was born on the 4th of january in 1938 in Emmerich, which is also in Germany. Now an interesting point: My grandfather, Walter Baumbach, born 1905, has grown up in "Wildungen" or "Bad Wildungen", which is near Kassel/Germany. And Kassel is near BaumbachCastle! Some years ago, my grandmother told me something about my grandfathers family. Some of my old, very old, relatives has gone to the states during the 1800's. In one of the next month, I'll get a part of the written down history of our family. If you are interested, I'll gave it as a copy to you. Some other details about my person: I am married with an nice little lady, called Marion, her name of birth is Feuerreiter. We got 2 boys, Maximilian, * 18.08.1995, and Christoph, *27.10.1996 My wife is an nurse and my profession is to be a police officerYours Munich-Bavaria-Germany

CommentsThanks for doing this great web site. Can not attend the reunion on Sep 9, but appreciated the notification. Do you have any information on how we could find out about our Baumbach ancestor who came to the USA about 1840. We have very little info on where he came from and if any remaining relatives are in Germany. Jerry C Baumbach 6004 South Lima Street Englewood, CO 80111

CommentsHi everybody called BAUMBACH I am a Baumbach, too. My name is Jens Baumbach, I live in Munich, Germany Years ago, my grandmother told me about same relatives, who went to america. This part of our family has come from (Bad) Wildungen in Germany. Maybe, there is a relationship between us.

CommentsThis note is to W.J. Baumbach, Jr., Why is it that you don't ever mention the name of the woman, who stood by your father's side through the hard times as well as the good times, and made it possible for him to become a millionaire? You know who I am talking about? Lillian's mother Mrs. Louise Carter Baumbach.... Why have you left this vital part of your father's fame out of the "family history"?
CommentsHi my name is Melanie Wikberg, I am a 33 year old mother of three. On May 24th I will be taking my master plumbers exam. I (with g-ds help) will be the first female master plumber in the city of Scranton Pennsylvania. I really wish i could've met Lillian. I first heard of her in Plumbing and Mechanical Magazine that my husband and I love to read. I think that they should do a little more for the women in the trade. Unlike Lillian, my father was a carpenter and against me becoming one. So one day aplumber friend needed a helper and I volunteered and it's been 14 years and I'm still with it. And just like Lillian I didn't have to give up my femininity!!!!!!! So now that its getting closer to May 24th I just felt the need to e-mail you and tell you a little bit about me. I currently work for a very large Mechanical contractor and do commercial, industrial and some residential service work. I really love it!!! I also am involved in a great project. I am the plumber for Habitat for Humanities "woman Build". We are a group of skilled and unskilled women who joined together in the spirit of sisterhood to build a house for a single mom. This is not a handout like so many people think. She is ahard working mother and has to give back sweat equity 500 hours worth and also pay a mortgage. I am also a wife and a mother of an 11 year old girl, a 9 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. Thanks for listening Mrs Melanie Wikberg
CommentsOur Daughter found your web site and sent it to us. We have enjoyed it very much. There are many Baumbach in Texas.
CommentsI never really knew there were so many people with the name Baumbach
CommentsMy name is Raymond D. Chavez; my Mother's name was Adelina Apodaca Bom-bach; her Father's name was Charles David Salmon Bombach; his Father's name was Otto J. Bombach, Sr. Otto came to the USA via Galveston, Texas and settled in San Antonio, Texas in 1848. He married a widow named Sarah Small (no marriage records - she was 18 yrs his senior!) They acquired properties there, and he refurbished her boarding house and is now a national historical monument - The Otto J. Bombach, Sr residence and The Little Rhein Steak- house on the River Walk. They separa- ted (no divorce or other record), and he went to Jimenez, Mexico where he married Hipolita Salmon (no marriage record) and brought her to the Las Cruces, New Mexico area where they set-tled and sired five boys and two girls. They are buried in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The certificate where he becomes a USA citizen shows that he was born in Perleberg, Prussia in 1831 and is dated 1852. My second cousin here in El Paso tells me that he strongly believes that his surname was Baumbach and not Bombach! We sure would like to clear this up and put it to rest, and wouldn't mind being decendants of Baum-bachs. I would dearly like to come to Germany in September and meet youall! My email is: rchabach@cs.com. Hope to hear from youall.

CommentsGeorge Michael Baumbach, born 1958, son of Richard Roland Baumbach, born 1931 in Herndon, VA, and moved to Gloucester,VA. He was the son of Alfred Roy Baumbach, born 1905, who was the son of Roy Alfred Baumbach, born 1882 in Sterling, VA.
CommentsMy father, David Roy Baumbach was born and raised in Gloucester, VA along with another brother and a sister (I think). I'm trying to find information on my grandparents but I'm having a hard time. I met them once when I was very young. I think my granddad's name was Rot but I'm not sure. Any help could put me in touch with a family I've never come to know. Thanks.
CommentsMy great grandmothers father was Theodor A. W. Baumbach from Sachsen-Gohta. He must have been born in the beginning of 1800. He was an officer in the Prussian army and probably joined the French foreign legion and was stationed in Afghanistan. What we know for sure is that he then joined the Dutch Colonial Army (K.N.I.L) in Indonesia. He married and had a daughter in 1853. I would be very glad if someone could give me some more information about him.
CommentsIt's very strange to see the Baumbach in the US. I am from the Netherlands. over here we are only with a few. nice site

CommentsI am looking for my grandfather who lives in Arizona. I think it may be in Suncity. His name is Leroy Baumbach. I haven't seen him since I was really little. And was looking for an address or phone number or any other way to reach him. Thank you . Micheal & Karen BaumbachB
CommentsI stumbled upon your website some time ago, but just recently noticed the information about your ancestor's Christening. I was stunned to see that the godfather was August Baumbach from Bad Liebenstein. I'm wondering if my great-grandfather might be the same person. His name, too, was August Baumbach (His full name was Johann George Gottlieb August Baumbach, but he used August as his first name). He lived in Steinbach bei Bad Liebenstein, which is right next to Bad Liebenstein, from at least 1859 until 1873. He later lived in Coburg. He was born in Sichelreuth. Do you know anything about the August Baumbach who was your ancestor's godfather? Do you know how your family is related to him? Thanks for this great website.
CommentsThanks this is really great. If you would like info on the Pennsylvania Baumbach's let me know. Thanks again.
CommentsMy name is Carmen D. Mistichelli. I came across your web page yesterday, Oct. 3. I would like information about the back water valve you show under inventions. I downloaded your distributors. I called three of them and they didn't know what I was talking about. Please respond as quickly as possible. The valve developed by your father is probablity exactly what I'm looking for. By the way, I am a licensed master plumber in New Jersey. I haven't worked at the trade for the past 20 year but still maintain my license. -----Original Message----- -----Original

CommentsI like the Web Site very much but at one time I saw pictures of the Baumbach castle in there and now I can't find them. I have been writing to two men that live over there in the town where the Castle is located, very interesting. Thank you, Raymond E. Baumbach
CommentsMy name is Herman R. Bomback (age 47) and I wonder if there is a link between your family and mine. I understand that immigration changed the spelling of my grandfather's name when he arrived in the U.S. To what degree, I do not know. Also, my grandmother's maiden name was Kramer.
CommentsI thought that this was a very interesting and creative way to let others learn about the Baumbach history. I am a Baumbach myself and I thought that is was very informational and fun to read about!! Thanks!
CommentsI once found a site for Baumbach Consulting located in Germany. I just checked the url and received an error message. Oh well! I noticed that you have not provided an area for the Canadian portion of the name. When I moved to London, Ontario I noticed that there were a few Baumbachs here, besides me. In my case, I am originally from Wisconsin, but now reside in Ontario. -----Original

Message----- Hi there William, it's great of you to spend so much time in creating your webpage. Well done ! I find it really comprehensive. My name is Uli Baumbach (Hanns Ulrich) and I'm living as a German citizen in Isenbüttel, a village about 100 kilometer east of Hannover, close to Braunschweig and Wolfsburg, Niedersachsen (lower saxony) I grew up in Bielefeld, a university-town in Nordrhein-Westfalen. My father Hans Rudi Baumbach was born at the 02-05-1913 in Germanys' Oranienbaum, a small city in Sachsen-Anhalt. It has a magnificent ensemble comprising the palace, park and town and was ceated at the end of the 17th century and has been largely preserved. Oranienbaum is situated east of Dessau. Here Walter Gropius founded the 'Bauhaus'and worked together with the artists, architects, designers and photographers as Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Georg Muche und Oskar Schlemmer. From here the brilliant ideas of these masters made the 'Bauhaus'-movement popular. West of Oranienbaum is the city of Wittenberg, where Martin Luther wrote his thesis and revolutionized the christian world. My fathers father was Otto Baumbach, born 03-11-1877 in Oranienbaum and my fathers mother was Friederike Ernestine Krause, born 07-25-1876 also in Oranienbaum. Otto Baumbachs' parents were Cristoph Baumbach, born 01-19-1835 in Oranienbaum and Wilhelmine Dorothea Schwann, born 11-25-1837. Of course I should'nt forget my mother (thanks to her) Gertrud Anna Zurgeissel, born 06-07-1919 in Hausberge/Porta-Westfalica. Her father was Caspar Anton Zurgeissel and her mother was Catharina Elisabeth Picker. If anybody thinks, there could be a relationship to me or my fathers history, don't hesitate to post me a Email, Internet makes the world small. I am age 50 now, but remember visiting my mother’s Uncle Billy near Indianola, Nebraska. I think my mother’s cousin was named Howard. We spent many summers of my childhood visiting the McCook, Trenton, Bertrand, Indianaola, Nebraka regions. When we went to Canada, there was a Baumbach (I think his name was Billy, too.). My father was stunned as he said he looked just like Uncle Billy from Indianola, Nebraska. And, both of them ‘chewed’ tobacco! There is an entire cemetery in Canada with our relatives. My father, sister, and I walked there behind the church. There is a great Candian Genealogy page that can take you to the cemetery lists. I think I found about 40 names of our ancestors in it. (try web url http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/ ) I am not certain if that is the full address but you should be able to do it with a search of Canadian Genealogy and History Links. I know that my grandfather Lorenz has a brother in Washington State (Great Uncle Edwin) and a sister in Southern California (Great Aunt Margaret). I do not know if both are alive though. Uncle Edwin and his wife never had children. Margaret’s husband died and she remarried a man by the name of Rogers. I do know that all of their ancestors came from a rural area of Ontario, Canada (Rostock and Gads Hill) which is north of Stratford, Ontario Canada. My sister and I personally visited the area and their are ‘numerous’ ancestors buried there. It was explained to me that they left the Alsace-Lorraine area of Germany in the approx. 1830-1840 timeframe. There are still living relatives in Canada. Thank you for taking the time to put forth all of your history on the internet. God Bless, Zeta Peterson zetap@prodigy.com My cousin Alice Baumbach Williamsen (Mrs. Dale Williamsen) would also be interested in any history that you may have. She can be copied on her email at damcwil@aol.com. She currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska. (Note most of my family are all still in the McCook, Nebraska and Southwest Iowa regions.Below is a letter I got in the mail on 08-20-98 I am hoping to find some Baumbach relatives who for many years lived in the Alexander, Arlington area. My mother's maiden name was Baumbach. Her father, Joseph Powers Baumbachs family immigrated from Hamburg, Germany in the 1840s and settled in Washington, D.C. His was a family of musicians. I have written a book, Family Stories Style, with attractive cover, and many photographs, that contain some family history they may not know about. I hope to find some relatives who would like to receive such a book. Mrs. Vivian Rittenhouse

Thank You very much for your time. From=Andrea Baumbach
Comments=This is certainly a unique and informative site. How wonderful for future generations. I have only begun to delve into our family’s roots and am looking forward to collecting our information. Right now I am searching for the name of the artist who painted "Village Blacksmith." This print hangs in the Lincoln Death Bedroom at the Peterson House in Washington. I am told the circa is 1865 Civil War era and donated by John Herring but they have no more information on it than this. I thought maybe with your family members being involved in blacksmithing it might be possible you have seen or know something about this print. I am searching all resources and so far nothing has turned up. The print I am referring to has a man bent over getting ready to remove a shoe on a white horse. There is a dog that looks maybe like a greyhound and a lady dressed in "colonial attire??" carrying a bottle of wine. If anyone in your family would have information regarding this print I would appreciate knowing any information available. Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you.

Dear William, many greetings from Bodo and Friedrich-Wilhelm von Baumbach, Kirchheim and Nentershausen. With pleasure we have seen our pictures from your last visitation in Germany. Hope to hear from you again. Have a nice day Bodo

Dear, William James Baumbach II Let me introduce myself, my name is Joyce. My fathers name is John Henry Baumbach. We do not have a lot of information about our family. We do know that twin brothers named Henry and Guido Baumbach came to Middletown, PA from Stadt-Weimer, Saxony, Germany. Their uncle in Germany was Casper Baumbach a shoemaker, weaver and baker. In Pennsylvania Henry and Guido lived with a brother-in-law Mr. Kretzmann. Henry moved to Norwalk, WI and Guido remained in the east. Henry had six sons, Guido Jr.,George, John, Henry Jr., William and Albert. Guido had 3 sons and 3 daughters. This is basically all the information I have. It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide me with a Baumbach genealogy if any of this information relates to your Baumbach family tree. Thank You Very Much Sincerely, Joyce
I have been researching our name "Bumbaugh" and Pat Orton sent me your website. It is very good. I have got back to John Bumbaugh,Sr. b. ca. 1750. place unknown. d. in Lewistown, Pa.,Mifflin Co. I haven’t gone back further but have several variations further back. In census’ and passenger ship records. I found a coup;e Johannes Jacob Bombach. I’m not sure of this spelling right now as I don’t have the information readily available but its close. I was wondering if you have run across this too? Since John,Sr. it has been spelled BUMBAUGH. I think it got changed sometime but don’t know when. I haven’t run across it yet.I do know that some of them changed their name to BRUMbaugh.

Hello Mr Baumbach! I read your page with enthusiasm and I was interested in the letter history by William Baumbach. Many names seem to be in common with some history my father has dug up. Here’s what he has given me: Amandus Baumbach b. 1830 Bavaria d.? Wash D.C. married Martha Adams from Prussia
Joseph P. 1849- harnessmaker on Penn Ave Louis C. 1851- My father has done a lot of research on the Baumbach family and I think he would be interested in hearing from anyone. His name is Robert Baumbach
Subj: family history Posted=Fri 23 May 1997 at 14:36 I love to read all about the baumbach family- thanks for all the information. Becky Baumbach- East Lansing, MI
Hello- My name is Rodd Baumbach and I live in Grants Pass, Oregon. I enjoyed this page and I’m letting my father in Michigan know about it. He has compiled a very large history of our part of the Baumbach line. I believe he has gone back all the way to Germany with it. I would be happy to hear from anyone about the Baumbach family.
05-20-97 Hi -- Just checked your web site, and saw my name listed (thanks!). I now have my own web site for my company, Causalworks (i.e. spelled as in "cause and effect"), which is a much better link for other Baumbachs to get ahold of me: http://shell10.ba.best.com/~emilyb/ Thanks a bunch. Appreciate all of your hard work to get everybody together. Cheerio, Emily Baumbach emilyb@nbn.com
After receiving several of your e-mail communications, I finally decided to look up the web site. It looks great and will be a good depository for facts on Baumbachs. I have always hoped there was more to the family than just rumors that marked us as uninterested in our background. Larry Baumbach, my second cousin (or whatever you call someone who has the same great-grandfather)lives about a block away from me. It was because his wife, Debbie, decided to compile a family tree for their children’s heritage that I discovered a family member an a neighbor to boot. She has the most complete tree about the side of the family that resided in Wisconsin and Iowa. There are no millionaires or famous people in this cluster. I did not find a reference to Baumbach Labs, a third party validation laboratory for water conditioning equipment in Appleton, Wisconsin. It is interesting how much plumbing I have to do in order to test the equipment. I thought I inherited my skills from my father, Oscar (dec.), and grandfather, Walter (dec.) who were sheet metal workers and part time plumbers. However, it seems that plumbing may be a family trait. At least for a family whose name literally means "tree-creek" the water part seems to have affected some of us. Keep posting the e-mails, we nay find helpful information in side comments people make about the family. From=Jim Baumbach, wtw0bl@aol.com Fri. 4/25/97 Hello William; I was wondering if you have permission to give out the e-mail address for Rebecca R. Baumbach. Rebecca sent you some comments in the ‘Letters, E-mail, notes and comments that visitors to this web site have sent me’ section of your webpage. I want to see if she might have any connections to my ancestors. If you can not give me her e-mail address, I will understand. Sincerely, David Baumbaugh
Hey there fellow Baumbach- My name is Rebecca Baumbach and I am a medical student at Michigan State University. I was just procrastinating a little and for the heck of it put my last name in the netscape search line. I was very surprised to see your webpage show up! I have a pretty large family that is mostly in Michigan and we also have an old family business. We own and operate Palace Jewelers. There are 5 stores. 3 in Michigan and 2 in Arizona. Well- I thought I’d just let you know that a possible long-lost relative caught your web-site. E-mail me if you are interested in knowing any more about me and my family.
Back to Baumbach History Main Page Wed. 3/12/97 Hi William J., I just discovered your BAUMBACH homepage. It looks great !!!! I am excited ... since I have been reseaching my ancestory for a few months, now. I have only "skimmed" your homepage; but I will try to study it, closer, for the next few days. In the last week, .... Hal Baumbach <lakes@orion.tstar.net> has started a homepage on the BAUMBACH surname. see : http://www.inetport.com/~baumbach/ (DEAD LINK 05-02) Hal and I have been trying to find a link between our families for the last few months. I will make Hal aware of your homepage and let him contact you. Initially, I just want to introduce myself and let you know that there are some BAUMBACHs out here that are very interested in what you have to say. THANK YOU !!! Please, keep up the good work. ..... Now, some gerenal info. about my ancestory : ============================================================================= My great-great-grandfather and family came over to the USA in 1854. His name was John Henry BAUMBACH, born in 1806, and her name was Johana Elizabeth ( Illhartd ), BAUMBACH born in 1815 and they married in 8/23/1838. They were born and lived in " Cawarz by Gote, Saxon Germany ". ( Manfred Baumbach, of Cologne, Germany believes that this should be "Cabarz by Gotha", now in the country of Thuringen, Germany.) I believe that Frank Henry and Johanna E. had nine children; two of the sons named Frank Charles BAUMBACH and Henry BAUMBACH. and 2 daughters - Lisa and Lena. My grandfather, Rev. Walter Henry BAUMBACH changed his name to BAUMBAUGH about 1910. I have a copy of a letter written in English by Henry BAUMBACH, a son of my great-great-grandfather - John Henry BAUMBACH. " Cawarz by Gote, Saxon Germany " is stated as the birth place of John Henry and his wife - Johana Elizabeth ( Illhartd ). It also states that they moved from " Cawarz to America on the 29-th of March 1852. The letter is in very neat handwriting and written in very good English. I assume that Henry BAUMBACH tried to translate his parents birthplace in his own way ?????? ( Again, possibly should be "Cabarz by Gotha", now in the country of Thuringen, Germany.) ============================================================================= I will look closer at your homepage, and get back to you.

Well, I looked and was impressed! (Looks like you’re as sick as me...i.e., you’ve got a heck of a construction job in front of you depending on the direction you take your site...bunch of possibilities).
Perhaps one day we’ll find the family connection. Until then, keep up the good work. I have book marked it for future reference. My father was a plumber in Superior, Nebraska for about 30 years but never became a millionaire. I wish he had. He is going to be 85 in April and still lives in Superior, Nebraska where I was raised. I have had many different types of jobs but was never a plumber. I have owned several businesses but never a plumbing business. Like you, I also design web pages. More as a hobby than a business. I am the webmaster of 6 web pages but make only about $1,000 a month at it so far. I am also a tax examiner with the IRS, which I hope to get away from soon. I will be 59 years old this week and am looking forward to retiremnt in a few years. I was a Russian and German Linguist in the Air Force many years ago and was able to spend 3 years in Germany. I couldn’t look up any Baumbach’s because I was isolated in Berlin which was 110 miles behind the iron curtain. I think my ancesters came from what was then East Germany. I really enjoyed your web site. The pictures of the castle were great. I would like to go see it sometime. Who owns the castle now? Do Baumbach’s own it?
