Marshal (Poet) M. Horton Obituary


Marshal Martin "Poet" Horton, 53, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at his home.

He was born in 1955 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the son of Richard and Mary Horton,

Mr. Horton was self-employed as an antiques & collectibles dealer. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and rider. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, having served in Vietnam, achieving the ranks of Spec 4 and PO 3,

He married Lorraine A. Manvell on December 25, 1986 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of Winchester and his parents of Falmouth, VA, are three daughters, Rebecca Horton of Coldwater, MS, and Macina and Charli Rose Horton, both of Winchester; four grandchildren; two sisters, Carlene McWhirt of Fredericksburg, VA and Marilu Hanson of South Dakota; and five brothers, Charles Smith of Maryland, John Smith of Massachusetts, Richard Horton, Jr. of Falmouth, VA, Gordon "Flash" Horton of Alabama and Leonard Charles, USN, Retired of White Post.

Mr. Horton was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Horton and a brother, Lee Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1860, 1847 N Royal Ave, Front Royal, VA 22630
